Desperetly Seeking Authenticity
Don't you mean New Age? No, it's Now Age.
Growing up in and around a lot of new age stuff, I developed a sensitive Bullshit Barometer for discerning the wheat from the chaff in the new age culture. Often times, philosophies and practices being promoted under that umbrella were rooted in good and valuable traditional teachings, but presented by, ummmmmm, let's just say, CRAZY PEOPLE, dressed up as gurus.
It also became clear that everything being sold as "new age" was actually coming from something very old, like the I Ching, for instance. The other thing I noticed that every new age practice talked about the importance of being "in the present moment". In the "now", if you will.
So, about fifteen years back I was publishing a small, New York-based magazine called, The Real News. One day, while writing an editorial, I was struck with the idea that I could create my own culture, based in self-health, self-discovery, environmental awareness, social justice and action, and true democracy. All connected with the thread of humility and authenticity.
That's my vision for the Now Age. This website is where that vision will come to life. Care to join the ride?
